In the predawn hours of June 27, 1864, Union officers receive an order that many consider to be suicide. At 8 am, they are to assault Confederate forces entrenched along the Kennesaw Mountain line, anchored by an imposing 1800-foot precipice known as the ''Gibraltar of Georgia''. The order has been given by General William Tecumseh Sherman, commander of Union forces. His mission: capture Atlanta, a critical rail center an industrial hub of the Confederate war machine. All that stands between Sherman and Atlanta is ''one last mountain'' - Kennesaw Mountain.
Narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Peter Coyote, ''Kennesaw: One Last Mountain'' uses authentic battle recreations and compelling accounts of soldiers, civilians, and freed slaves to bring to life one of the most dramatic stories of the Civil War. Approximate runtime: 35 minutes.
