Our 2014 item is an adaptation of a conical beaker with claw-like handles applied to the outside. Hot gobs of molten glass are applied to the body, which are then blown into shape through the wall, drawn out with pinchers and reattached to the body. The trails at the neck and base are made from single spiraling lengths of molten glass. Some of these beakers date back to the 5th Century. This beaker measures approximately 9 inches tall.
Each year a special item is crafted at the Glasshouse of 1608. This item represents a unique aspect in the development of hand blown glass. The item will be available for one year only. On the bottom of each special issue item you will find Jamestown Glasshouse etched along with the year of issue. Each item is also numbered.
All of the Jamestown Glasshouse produced pieces are hand-blown and crafted by local artisans. The natural color of glass is green so if you seek historical accuracy then your best selection is the green glass items. Since every piece is hand blown and crafted there will be slight irregularities and therefore no two items will be exactly the same. This item does not contain lead.
DO NOT PUT THESE HANDBLOWN GLASS ITEMS IN A DISHWASHER OR OVEN THEY ARE TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE.
