Established in 1952, Christiansted National Historic Site was the first unit of the National Park System in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The park's historic buildings and grounds commemorate the Danish heritage of the town of Christiansted, St. Croix, which was named in honor of Christian IV, King of Denmark and Norway during the early 1700's.
