George Rogers Clark Memorial Replica

This massive granite structure at Vicennes, Indiana, symbolizes the birthplace of the United States north of the Ohio River. The memorial is located on the side of the former British Fort Sackville, which was captured by Colonel Clark on February 2, 1779, during the American Revolution. The victory forced the British to cede to the United States, a section of land which was double the size of the original 13 states.
