This Piece is a Historical Reproduction
Seventeenth century wine bottles with applied glass handles were intended as table serving bottles and are exceptionally rare. Since the addition of a handle was a logical step, as wine bottlenecks became shorter 1650-1685, the rarity of these decanters may have been due to the availability of clear glass decanters from Venice. The bodies of these decanter reproductions are based on actual artifacts found at Jamestown. This piece measures 7" high.
All of the Jamestown Glasshouse produced pieces are hand-blown and crafted by local artisans. The natural color of glass is green so if you seek historical accuracy then your best selection is the green glass items. Since every piece is hand blown and crafted there will be slight irregularities and therefore no two items will be exactly the same.
