ANP Hot Springs National Park Hiking Medallion

In 1832 the U.S. Congress and President Andrew Jackson created a truly American spa for public benefit. ³Hot Springs Reservation² in Arkansas was officially renamed Hot Springs National Park in 1921. Millions of people have enjoyed the bubbling spring water, which is cooled from 143° F to safe temperatures in the tub. Doctors once recommended a stay of several weeks here to cure various maladies. Visitors not only bathed but ³quaffed the elixir² or drank the pure and pleasant-tasting mineral water.The 5,550-acre park features hiking trails, scenic drives, and observation points in the wooded Ouachita Mountains. Italian marble, stained glass windows with nature motifs, ceramic tile floors in intricate patterns, flowing fountains, European-style architecture, and flowering magnolias grace historic Bathhouse Row.
