CWS Atlanta
Available only on eParks!

Part of the National Park Civil War Series. In a congratulatory telegram to Union General William T. Sherman, U.S. Grant declared his mission "the most gigantic undertaking given to any general in the war." By late 1864, Sherman had accomplished his main goal of taking Atlanta and in doing so had guaranteed the North's ultimate victory by depriving the South of its last chance of winning. To the majority of Northerners, Sherman's capture of Atlanta meant that the war was being won and should continue until the Union was restored and slavery - the major cause of the conflict - eradicated.
