Part of the National Park Civil War Series. Originating on the slopes of the Appalachian Mountains, the Savannah River flows east, forming the boundary between South Carolina and Georgia. Twelve miles from the coast it passes Savannah, joined by hundreds of interconnecting channels twisitng their way into the sea. Among the channels are hundreds of tidal islands.
