Thomas Edison is credited with the invention of the motion picture. This flipbook illustrates how he used multiple photos to show movement. Annie Oakley shoots with "fine smoke effects" and a young boy shos his twirling skills in a very early Edison experiment. Historical insight to these sequences is provided by Edison film scholar Charles Musser. Annie Oakley was shot November 1, 1894, Newark Athlete was shot in May 1891.
