The Parkway commemorates the historic Natchez Trace, a path that connected Natchez on the Mississippi River with Nashville, some 500 miles northeast on the Cumberland River. After the American Revolution, the new United States gained access to those lands west of the Appalachains as far as the Mississippi River. Indian Nations continued to control this region. By 1801 the Natchez Trace was designated as a post route between Nashville and Natchez. Magnet measures 9 inches x 6 and 1/2 inches.
