Flight 93 10th Anniversary Commemorative Coin

On the morning of September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial US airliners. The terrorists flew two jet aircraft into the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in New York City and third aircraft into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Alerted to the events at the other two sites, the forty unarmed passengers and crew on the fourth hijacked aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, took quick and determined action. Their revolt caused the terrorists to crash in the plane in a field in rural Pennsylvania, killing all on board, instead of reaching the terrorist's intended target - The White House or US Capitol Building in Washington, DC. The four aircraft strikes killed nearly 3,000 people, the deadliest attack on American soil by any foreign nation or terrorist group.

Flight 93 National Memorial honors the brave efforts of the passengers and cew who prevented a larger tragedy. This item commemorates the dedication of the Flight 93 National Memorial and Tenth Anniversary Memorial Service on September 10-11, 2011, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
