*The African American Experience at Hopewell Furnace

*The African American Experience at Hopewell Furnace

Hopewell Furnace's African American workers left few traces of their existence, and no personal diaries or volumes of correspondence have been found to document their lives. By examinig Hopewell Furnace's daysbooks and ledgers, we see glimpses of how these men and women came to Hopewell Village, earned their wages, moved on or stayed, and how they interacted and were treated by the other village inhabitants. The images are of reenactors portraying eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Hopewell African Americans.
