In May of 1539, Hernando De Soto along with nine ships and over 600 men landed south of Tampa Bay. For the next couple years, until his death in 1542, De Soto and his men explored the interior of the South Eastern United States.
De Soto and his men were in search of gold and treasure, they found none. Instead, they found a vast territory teeming with less-than-friendly native populations.
This patch displays Spanish Conquistadors as they explore the new world and commemorates De Soto's consequential expedition.
