Description

Difficult terrain, intense enemy fire, not having the high ground—all these factors combined to spell disaster for the Union forces attacking the Confederate heights on Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia on June 27, 1864. Major General William T. Sherman hoped to penetrate the Confederate defensive line at its center—the mountain itself—but his efforts failed miserably, resulting in the deaths of about 3,000 Federal soldiers. This failure, however, was not enough to stop Sherman's advance toward Atlanta, which he ended up capturing about two months later.

Adorn your hiking stick with this medallion that commemorates the battle and, in so doing, help support a national park that endeavors to preserve the history and grounds of this momentous conflict.
