During the early 1920s, Death Valley Scotty, a famous con-man and Scotty's Castle's namesake, convinced millionaire Albert Johnson to invest in his imaginary gold mine in the region. When Johnson found out, he became fascinated with Death Valley Scotty and was convinced to build a vacation home in the region. The only problem? The villa was built on government land!
Today, Scotty's Castle is just one of the many attractions at the breathtaking Death Valley National Park and a welcome retreat from the valley's record-setting heat!
