Item#: 369744

It was at this depot on February 11, 1861, that president-elect Lincoln bid a heartfelt goodbye to the residents of Springfield from the back of a railroad car.  He was met at the Springfield train station by an estimated 1,000 of his friends and neighbors who wanted to wish him well.   This speech is now known as the Farewell Address.
