Established in 1996, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas does a vital job: It preserves and protects the remainder of what was once a huge prairie that sprawled across more than 170,000,000 acres. Now comprising only about 11,000 acres due to agriculture and urban development, it's a small ecosystem that the National Park Service is restoring to its natural conditions.
Considering that important work being done, this is a patch worthy of wear. Featuring an illustration of a peaceful scene—one of the bison that graze on the prairie, with the vast grasslands stretching in the distance—it's a clear way to let people know about this preserve and the important work being done there.
