It was in 1916 that Woodrow Wilson first established Acadia as the Siur de Monts National Monument, named after the famous French explorer. Only 3 years later is was renamed in honor of Marquis de Lafayette, the French patriot who played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War. The park became Acadia in 1929, when it was renamed in honor of the French colony that once existed on the land.
This hiking stick medallion celebrates 100 years of honoring the French legacy of the region, and preserving this remarkable landscape for hundreds of years to come.
