Nothing stopped American volunteerism during World War I. While the United States officially entered the war in 1917, three years after it began in Europe, individual Americans were volunteering their resources, talents and sometimes their lives from the very start. The American Field Service acted as an emergency ambulance service for the French throughout the conflict. Over 1,200 volunteer drivers in Model T Fords carried wounded French soldiers from the front lines to the hospitals.
You can ponder the volunteer spirit of America over your morning coffee with this commemorative World War I mug. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the United States' entry into the war, this 11oz mug depicts one of the era's famous illustrated posters designed to inspire support of the war effort. Perfect for your collection or a great gift for the history buff in your life!
