In June 1604, an expedition to Saint Croix Island was led by Frenchman Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. Members of the crew underwent surviving the harsh winter that year on the island. Many died. The following summer, the survivors left the island to settle Port Royal, in today's Nova Scotia. Our Saint Croix Island Hiking Medallion features an illustration of a French ship, in honor of this crew's discoveries. Use our hiking medallion to commemorate Saint Croix's history.
