At the enormous size of 800,000 acres, Joshua Tree National Park is home to three distinct ecosystems. The Colorado Desert is arid and sprinkled with cacti; the Mojave Desert is cooler and holds joshua trees; the Little San Bernardino Mountains are much colder and sprouts pine trees. Created in 1936 and elevated to park status in 1994, Joshua Tree National Park is known for its incredible ecological diversity.
