Description

The Jaw Harp is believed to be one of the oldest instruments in the world and depictions of the instrument date back to the 4th century B.C. In America, the Jaw Harp has a long history of being a staple instrument, both solo and ensemble, in Appalachian folk music.

It is played by holding the harp between your teeth and plucking a metal tongue attached to the frame. In this way, the mouth is used to amplify and direct the sound, thus changing the shape of your mouth and varying your breathing also changes the sounds made by the harp.

Easy to learn but hard to master, the Jaw Harp also makes an interesting challenge or hobby for a musician of any skill level. For the fan of folk music or historical instruments, it makes a great gift too!
