This history of the water found at the Hot Spring National Park dates back about 4,000 years, where it fell to the Earth as rain. The water rises an estimated 8,000 feet, dissolving minerals from the rocks as it ascends to the surface. In the 1800s, the spring water was considered medicinal as certain springs contained minerals that were used to treat specific ailments. Sulphur Springs, Magnesia Springs and Chalybeate (Iron) Springs for example, may still survive in name today but the springs themselves are now treated per local regulation.
