Description

Nobody ever promised that being a pioneer would be easy. Undoubtedly, many people in the 17th and 18th centuries found that out. Pioneers and traveling settlers had to face many hardships on their way westward through the Cumberland Gap in the Appalachian Mountains, including attacks by Native Americans, rough terrain and harsh weather. Nobody was exempt from the risk of suffering on such treks: Even the great backwoodsman Daniel Boone lost a son in an attack by Native Americans.

Featuring an illustration of a pioneer set boldly against a wilderness background, this collectible lapel pin conveys the spirit of bravery and hardihood those early settlers and trailblazers must have possessed to face the dangers of the Cumberland Gap.
