Elkhorn Tavern was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces. Brig. Gen. Curtis first used the tavern as part of his supply base. The Confederates then captured the building in the afternoon of March 7. It was turned into a field hospital to care for both armies. The Union retook the tavern on March 8, and it was used by the Federals until Confederate rebels burned it down in 1863.

This ornament illustrates a picture of Elkhorn Tavern in the winter. Snow blankets every structure in this depiction. The combination of white snow and the red banner underneath the image evoke a feeling of winter and the warmth of a fire that comes with it. Hang this ornament on your tree to commemorate the soldiers who fought at Pea Ridge.
